Alberta Lamb!

Local pride from our gate to your plate.

Alberta Lamb Producers continues to represent sheep producers' interests as the Alberta Livestock & Meat Agency (ALMA) evolves. Alberta Lamb Producers ensures the voice of the industry is heard by Alberta Livestock & Meat Agency personnel to achieve the best outcomes, programs and development for the sheep industry.

In their bid to stabilize and strengthen the meat and livestock industry in Alberta, ALMA offers a variety of funding programs. Alberta Lamb Producers has been fortunate to receive approval for 100% of their funding applications to date including Lamb Traceability Pilot; Business Plan Implementation; Investigation of illegal lamb trade; Alberta Sheep Information Management System; Alberta Sheep Symposium 2009; Precision Flock Management; Lamb Production Resources and Tools.

We appreciate the funding that ALMA makes available to our industry

The Alberta Livestock & Meat Agency (ALMA) is very supportive of the lamb industry and has recently approved further funding to:

September 2011 – Lamb Production Resources and Tools

  • Producer courses and web clips for: getting started, health, reproduction, nutrition, business
  • New modules for Sheep & Goat Management in Alberta
  • Infrastructure workshops for expanding producers
  • Market and consumer awareness workshops

July 2011 – Precision Flock Management

  • Provide information to enable producers to implement Precision Flock Management, i.e., address profit leaks in their businesses.
  • Spread the experience, skills and knowledge gained by the LTP co-operators to all producers.

Presentations on Precision Flock Management, and details on how to get started were presented at the 2012 ALP Fall Round Up meetings. Pdf’s of these presentations can be viewed from the Audio-Visual Resources page.

The Flock Snapshot has been developed to enable producers to input information into a simple spreadsheet to determine their cost of producing lambs. The knowledge and experience gained in the pilot project benefits all lamb producers.
