Biosecurity and livestock
Preventing disease from entering or leaving Alberta farms protects human and animal health, and supports sustainable livestock production.
Biosecurity refers to practices designed to prevent, reduce or eliminate the introduction and spread of disease. Concerns over the spread of animal diseases, particularly those of foreign origin, are high within the livestock industry.
Livestock diseases can affect any type of operation regardless of size. Biosecurity practices tailored to each operation minimize the introduction and/or transmission of disease:
on a given farm
between farms
between species

He has spent the last decade serving on the executives of various provincial and national sheep and agricultural boards; most notably his time served as President of the CCWG Board from 2021 until now.
“The CCWG has dealt with many pressures in the last number of years. Economic instability, pandemic related supply chain disruption, sheep industry political forces and more. Yet, we as a cooperative, have continued to grow our retail divisions, Livestock Supplies & the Real Wool Shop, grow our wool processing capacity and grow our value proposition to shareholders. I look forward to leading this company to realize its full growth potential and to improving the wool marketing conditions for sheep farmers across this great country” Morgan Moore, CCWG General Manager.
“I thoroughly appreciate having had the opportunity of working alongside Morgan these past several years in our capacity as Directors of CCWG. Morgan has shown himself to be a leader with a strong business acumen and a heart for the sheep industry. Primary agricultural producers engagement - deadline fast approaching
Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation (AGI) is seeking feedback from primary producers to better understand challenges and barriers to growth in Alberta’s agriculture sector.
This sector has faced a variety of changes in the last few years including rising input costs, policy direction uncertainties from the federal government, volatile commodity prices, rising interest rates and supply chain challenges.
Producers can share their input about:
• the cost of production
• impediments to establish, maintain or grow an agricultural operation
• government policy or programming that would support a thriving agriculture sector
Primary agriculture producers can complete an online survey by July 31 to help AGI better understand the specific barriers and opportunities they see in the primary agriculture industry sector.
