Sheep Calendar
The planning for the 4th annual Sheep Conference is all coming together!
As per producers request we have an impressive lineup of speakers.
- Dr. Houston, Professor of Medicine and Public Health from the U of A, will be here to speak with us on Zoonotic Diseases and Q-fever. He will also be available to do testing for Q-fever if you wish to have the testing done.
- Dr. Christy Barlund, DVM, instructor of animal health GPRC – Fairview Campus, will speak on the health of our sheep and goats. She is only available to come and speak in the morning, as she has other commitments that day.
- We have Trevor Jones, co-owner/operator of Jones Stock Farms. He said that he will have a little bit of something for everyone. Bring your questions for him.
- Raelyn Peterson, Farm Safety Co-ordinator, Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, will speak to us about the “Sustainable Farm Family”. This is a government sponsored program to do with the Shepherd Health. Interesting!!
- Lastly, we have a general meeting for PRLA.
This year’s conference will be on Saturday, June 11th at 10:00 AM. Registration will start at 9:30 at the Rycroft Ag Centre, Rycroft, Alberta.
Please pre-register ASAP as Dr. Houston needs to know how many blood testing kits he will need. This is voluntary, you do not need to the testing if you don’t want to.
The board believes Zoonotic Disease is something that can hit all species of livestock (sheep, goats, cattle, cats, and dogs). The board also feels that it is important for all producers to learn all they can about these diseases.
I am asking everyone to please pass the word about this important informational conference to your neighbors, to other sheep producers, goat producers and cattlemen.
